What it is

Tirzepatide is a single peptide engineered to activate both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. It is a prescription product with large outcome and obesity programs. Research-chemical “TZ” vials are not Mounjaro or Zepbound.

Benefits in plain language

What researchers and reference users usually mean when they talk about this compound. These are study themes and common claims — not a promise that it will do this in you.

If a branded, FDA-approved product exists, that label is the only dose that is actually authorized. Research-chemical vials are a different object.

Mechanism of action

GLP-1 receptor activity slows gastric emptying, reduces appetite, and supports glucose-dependent insulin secretion. GIP receptor activity adds incretin signaling that, in this molecule, appears to contribute to additional weight and glycemic effect versus GLP-1-only drugs in head-to-heads.

Possible side effects

Label-class effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, risk of gallbladder disease, pancreatitis warning language, boxed warning regarding thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents (same family as other GLP-1 RAs), and hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Titration exists specifically to cut GI dropouts.
