Imcivree · MC4R agonist
Setmelanotide
Label Rare disease
What it is
Setmelanotide (Imcivree) turns on the MC4 receptor that tells the brain “stop eating” in people whose leptin-POMC path is broken by specific genetic defects.
Benefits in plain language
What researchers and reference users usually mean when they talk about this compound. These are study themes and common claims — not a promise that it will do this in you.
- On-label it can produce real weight change in those rare genotypes (POMC, PCSK1, LEPR, BBS).
- It is not a general-population diet shot like Wegovy.
- Skin darkening and sexual-arousal effects can appear because melanocortin receptors do more than hunger.
If a branded, FDA-approved product exists, that label is the only dose that is actually authorized. Research-chemical vials are a different object.
Mechanism of action
MC4R agonism downstream of leptin/POMC; restores satiety signaling when that path is genetically interrupted.
Possible side effects / caveats
Hyperpigmentation, nausea, spontaneous erections / arousal, injection reactions. Wrong-patient use is the big conceptual error.
