What it is
Pramlintide is injectable amylin for insulin-using diabetes (Symlin). It slows the stomach, lowers post-meal glucagon, and adds fullness.
Benefits in plain language
What researchers and reference users usually mean when they talk about this compound. These are study themes and common claims — not a promise that it will do this in you.
- On the label it helps blunt after-meal sugar spikes and can add a little weight loss.
- It is the ancestor idea behind newer long-acting amylins like cagrilintide.
- Mealtime shots plus insulin means hypoglycemia risk if insulin is not reduced per label.
If a branded, FDA-approved product exists, that label is the only dose that is actually authorized. Research-chemical vials are a different object.
Mechanism of action
Amylin receptor agonism: decelerated gastric emptying, suppressed glucagon, central satiety.
Possible side effects / caveats
Nausea, hypoglycemia with insulin, boxed warning language on the insert. Research vials are not Symlin pens.
