Exenatide is the original lizard-saliva GLP-1 analog. Byetta was twice daily; Bydureon is the weekly depot.
Benefits in plain language
What researchers and reference users usually mean when they talk about this compound. These are study themes and common claims — not a promise that it will do this in you.
- It proved the GLP-1 weight-and-glucose idea in everyday clinics.
- Newer agents usually win on convenience and average weight change, but this is the ancestor.
- Antibodies and injection nodules show up more in write-ups than with semaglutide.
If a branded, FDA-approved product exists, that label is the only dose that is actually authorized. Research-chemical vials are a different object.
Mechanism of action
Exendin-4 backbone activates GLP-1 receptors; resistant to DPP-4 relative to native GLP-1.
Possible side effects / caveats
Nausea, nodules with depot, antibody formation, class warnings.
