What it is
Calcitonin is a thyroid peptide that lowers blood calcium and slows bone breakdown. Salmon calcitonin sprays were common osteoporosis tools before better anabolics and antiresorptives.
Benefits in plain language
What researchers and reference users usually mean when they talk about this compound. These are study themes and common claims — not a promise that it will do this in you.
- Historical benefit: pain from some vertebral fractures and a modest anti-breakdown effect.
- Mostly superseded, but it is still a real peptide hormone in the archive.
- Not a cutting stack ingredient.
If a branded, FDA-approved product exists, that label is the only dose that is actually authorized. Research-chemical vials are a different object.
Mechanism of action
Calcitonin-receptor agonism on osteoclasts reduces resorptive activity; also CNS analgesic themes.
Possible side effects / caveats
Nausea, flushing, nasal irritation, malignancy signal debates on long-term salmon calcitonin — see current labeling.
